Your first ten hours
A short list of habits that pay off for the rest of the game.
- Play the path through Chapter 4. That is where Free Time, the World Map and the Pale Raven all open.
- Clear the tutorial board quests. They are trivial and each pays 10 Renown plus an item.
- Give one gift to every character you might want to recruit. The first gift forms a New Bond, which is required before you can share meals or ask them to join.
- Eat at the Inn every week with two people you are courting. Three diners gain Support at once and it costs no Turn.
- Take your first class change in Chapter 5 — the tutorial gives one free.
- Start your hero's own quest line as soon as it appears. It pays several times the Renown of ordinary subquests.
- Feed the Pale Raven every week. It is free and it is the only way Eshmel builds bonds in Part I.
Habits worth forming
- At the start of each Free Time, read the Turn counter, the Bulletin Board and the Calendar before doing anything else.
- Do everything that costs no Turn in the city, then leave for the map.
- Visit the next mission's location early so the game moves you there when time runs out.
- Train at the Arena on Saturday or Sunday, when it is half price.
- Serve at a temple on that god's holy day for a guaranteed Perfect.
- Use plain attacks by default. Only Combat Arts wear weapons down.
Mistakes that cost the most
- Letting a paralogue's window close. They only exist in Part I, and each is worth 150 Renown and 20,000 G.
- Hoarding gifts. They are reported not to leave Part I with you.
- Chasing Renown rank 12 on every path. It resets, and almost nothing needs more than 10.
- Emptying Divine Sand in skirmishes right before a story battle.
- Entering a dungeon without food. Storage is locked inside.
